There are a number of scalp conditions that can also affect the hair, many of these conditions can be successfully treated and would not prevent you from wearing a wig, however there are a few conditions where we would advise that the wearing of a wig could exacerbate the condition and add to the symptoms, these are:

Psoriasis, this condition can be very itchy and would be further irritated by the wearing of a wig, once the condition is being treated and kept under control, then looking to wear a wig would not be a problem.

PFolliculitis Decalvens

Folliculitis Decalvens, this is an inflammatory scalp condition that attacks the hair root, whilst it is active the scalp becomes very tight, sore and often has pustules, which lead to scarring and hair loss. The itching and pustules can be treated and during this time it is best not to wear a wig, once the scalp has calmed down and the hair loss is apparent then look at either hair pieces or wigs as a solution for the resultant loss.

Tinea Capitas, commonly known as ringworm, is a fungal infection that is highly contagious, wigs and hairpieces should not be worn or tried on whilst this condition is active.

Bockharts Impetigo, an infected form or folliculitis, wearing a wig would aggravate this condition, best avoided.

Frontal Fibrosing
